Cops bust gang of three robbers, nab 2

LUDHIANA: police have busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of two accused, while one managed to escape, on Monday. The police have seized cash worth Rs 12,000 from their possession and an auto used by the accused.
The arrested accused have been identified as of Shimlapuri and Rakesh Kumar of Guru Arjun Nagar, Sahnewal while their accomplice Shambhu managed to escape. The accused were arrested by police from a checkpoint established near Giaspura Chowk.

The SHO at Focal Point police station, Amandeep Brar said on March 16 the trio had robbed a resident of Sherpur area, Anand Kumar, of Rs 48,000. was boarding their auto rickshaw when the accused threatened him with a knife and robbed him. An FIR was lodged at Focal Point after the incident.

Further, assistant commissioner of police (ACP- South) said the accused have confessed of having carried out seven such loots in different areas of the city.

While sharing about their modus operandi, said one of accused would drive the auto while two would sit inside posing as passengers. Most of the time the accused posing as passengers would rob the money and belongings on the way to destination. However, on facing protests from the victims, the accused would threaten passengers with sharp-edged weapons.

The official added the accused Ajay Kumar has been facing trials under NDPS Act while Rakesh has been facing trials in three cases of loots.
