Authorities medical doctors search pay hike, 50% reservation in PG seats

COIMBATORE: Government doctors on Monday conducted a demonstration at the and Hospital (CMCH) premises demanding 50% reservation in post graduate studies and pay scale on par with the doctors in the central government service.
The 50% reservation was not a privilege, said district president of the Government Doctors N Kumar. “Working in any primary health centre in the state is difficult as there would be more work. The says even a place like was not a rural area, as it had bus service. But, doctors there deal with a lot of communicable diseases, which is not taken into account,” he said.

If there was no reservation for government doctors in PG studies, there would be no one to work in specialty departments such as paediatrics and gynaecology, Ravi said. “No one will work for a salary as low as ours,” he said.

Speaking about their demand for salary on par with that of central government doctors, he said doctors in Tamil Nadu do much more work than the central government doctors, but get paid less. “Central government doctors just treat inpatients. But we, in addition to treating patients, also have to implement government’s health schemes. There are at least 20 such schemes we have to work on. But, we get paid less. We are not asking for more pay, just pay equal to that of the central government doctors,” he said.
