Man arrested on suspicion of arson after palm bushes burn in Riverside

A man was arrested on suspicion of arson after Cal Fire and Riverside city firefighters spent a little under two hours fighting fires in several palm trees on Monday, officials said.

The fires were reported at 3:05 p.m. near the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Fillmore Street. Cal Fire responded first to find at least four palm trees burning. Firefighters from the city arrived shortly after, according to a City of Riverside Fire Department news release.

Responding firefighters found the number of burning trees to be suspicious, and an arson investigation was launched together with the Riverside Police Department. By the end of the day, a male suspect was placed in custody – no further information on the suspect was immediately available.

No homes were damaged in the fires, and no firefighters or civilians were injured
