Former Bihar CM Rabri Devi protests towards state govt exterior Legislative Council

PATNA: Stung by an order of the Bihar Legislative Council’s officiating chairman , all members of the RJD, led by former CM , on Wednesday walked out of the House and staged a dharna at the council’s main gate for around one-and-a-half-hours, protesting against the state government’s failure to check rising incidents of crime and take action against the BJP leaders engaged in fomenting communal hatred in Bhagalpur and Darbhanga district.
As soon as the house assembled for the day’s business at 12 noon, RJD member sought a debate on the rising incidents of serious crimes like murder and loot across the state, by adjourning the scheduled business. He also drew attention of the chairman towards an adjournment motion submitted by another RJD member on the same topic.

Assisted by other RJD members, Subodh kept on urging the chair to allow Pradad’s adjournment motion. As the chair refused to adjourn the day’s business, Subodh went into the well and began shouting slogans against the state government on the issue of deteriorating law and order scenario.

Angry over Subodh’s behaviour, chairman asked him to “go out of the house.” As Subodh went out of the house, other RJD members led by Rabri Devi rose to their feet and began shouting slogans against the government. While Rabri was lodging vehement protest over the ouster of Subodh from the house, the chairman told the former CM, “You too can go out of the House.” To this, all RJD members led by Rabri walked out of the house and sat on dharna at the main gate of the council, obstructing entry of other members and council staff through the main gate.

While sitting on dharna, they shouted anti-government slogans and demanded immediate arrest of all those BJP leaders who are indulged in fomenting communal hatred in the state.

The agitated RJD members accused the chairman of not exercising neutrality in running the house. They also alleged that the chair “ousted” RJD members from the house to please the leaders of ruling NDA.

As the RJD’s dharna had blocked entry and egress from the Council through the main gate, a brief scuffle took place in between the protesting MLCs and the JD(U) legislator and former minister Ashok Kumar Choudhary, who was compelled to take a circuitous route for exit from the council building.

Later at the intervention of senior MLC Kedar Nath Panday, the RJD members agreed to end the dharna. After the dharna, Pandey took Rabri Devi to the chamber of council chairman where Rashid and RJD members agreed for reconciliation.

In the post lunch session, the chairman ordered Pandey to go to the opposition’s lobby and request all the RJD members to come inside the House and participate in the proceedings. At the chairman’s request, the RJD members joined in the proceedings in the post-lunch session.
