Insurgent Congress MLA and JD(S) nominee A S Patil Nadahalli joins BJP

BENGALURU: It is perhaps the signs of things to come ahead of the 2018 elections, as and declared JD(S) candidate from Muddebihal, A S joined BJP on Wednesday.

The three time MLA from Devarahippargi in Vijayapura district, Nadahalli admitted that the prime reason for dissociating himself from JD(S) was that the regional party did not consider his wife, Mahadevi, for an assembly ticket.

“When father and son, younger and older brothers can contest from JD(S), why cannot my wife and me both contest?” questioned Nadahalli.

The rebel Congress MLA, who was dismissed from the ruling party for “anti-party” activities by publicly joining and pledging his loyalty to JD(S) till about a month ago, admitted that he had vacated the seat from where he had won thrice for the JD(S) president H D to contest.

“It is true that I had vacated the seat for Kumaraswamy to contest, and had even actively campaigned on behalf of the JD(S) in north Karnataka. But when he refused to contest from the constituency, why would I give my home constituency to some outsider? What is wrong in my supporters asking for my wife to contest?” he questioned.

Nadahalli, however, said he has not been promised any tickets for him and his wife by the BJP.

“I have joined BJP with an open mind and there has been no assurances from the party with regard to assembly tickets to me and my wife. I will work as per the wishes of the party leadership,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nadahalli’s turncoat act has put the JD(S) in a tough spot with their intentions of expanding in north Karnataka receiving a huge jolt. The party has also lost any possibility of fielding a Lingayat face in the region, with only senior MLC Basavaraj Horratti as the representative of the community.
