Car theft racket busted, two arrested

THANE: The city police have busted a vehicle theft racket with the arrest of two auto drivers from on Monday. The cops have recovered four motorcycles and nine autos that were stolen from Mumbai and Thane.

According to the police, the duo used to steal autos and bikes from Mumbai and used to change their number plates and then rent it out to other drivers for Rs 1,000 per day. A total of seven vehicle theft cases have been detected, out of which four which were registered in Thane.

DCP said, “We are trying to trace the main owner of the vehicles. The accused had stolen these vehicles over a period of one year and used to commit these robberies only at night.”

The accused used to earn Rs 30,000 a month from the stolen vehicles.
