Coimbatore company accounts officer’s appointment comes beneath scanner

COIMBATORE: The state government has initiated disciplinary action against city assistant commissioner (accounts) M after details about his incorrect date of birth and employment registration number that he had provided during the time of the appointment in 1991 came to the fore.
Further, to ensure a fair inquiry, Sundararajan has been transferred to the to the post of assistant commissioner (personnel).

Retired superintendent of Coimbatore municipal corporation R Subramanian had complained against Sundararajan’s appointment. Subsequently, the commissioner of municipal administration started an inquiry and deputed , an IAS officer, as the enquiry officer. In his report, had said that during the probe, Sundararajan failed to provide convincing explanation and evidence to prove that his appointment was made legitimately.

“The government examined the report submitted by Rajaraman, the reports sent by the commissioner of Coimbatore municipal corporation and commissioner of municipal administration, and found that no specific evidence could be brought out by the inquiry officer. However, as seen from his report, there is a probability of an occurrence of irregularity in his initial appointment. Hence, the government has decided to initiate a disciplinary action under the (discipline and appeal) Rules, 1986. Further, the government has decided to appoint another inquiry officer to probe the issue. To ensure a fair enquiry, the government has transferred M Sundararajan to corporation,” principal secretary to the government, municipal administration and water supply department Harminder Singh stated in the order issued on March 9.

Meanwhile, Sundararajan told TOI that he was aware about the order. “There is no truth in the complaint,” he said.

Corporation commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan said that though he has received the order, since the corporation was tabling the annual budget on March 23, has decided to delay the transfer until then.
