Cops nab burglar in eight hours, get better 39 sovereigns gold

TIRUPUR: The city police on Thursday arrested a burglar, who made off with 39 sovereigns gold jewellery and Rs 7.85 lakh in cash from a garment businessman’s house at Thottathupalayam, eight hours after the incident.
Knowledge about the modus operandi of 40-year-old K , who has 30 cases against him, helped police nab him and recover the stolen items.

The history-sheeter had targeted the house of of in Thottathupalayam. “Arun is running a knitwear garment manufacturing unit near the New Bus Stand. He had left for the unit on Thursday night, leaving behind his wife Rajeswari and daughter at the house. As usual, after locking the front door, had kept the key near a window. Around 1am, Siva gained entry into the house using the key and stole gold and cash from a bureau that was not locked. When Rajeswari woke up hearing the noise, the thief fled from the house and locked the front door. He threw away the key,” a police officer said.

A police team soon reached the place. City police commissioner P Nagarajan formed a special five-member team led by Anupparpalayam inspector KT Rajan Babu, who had zeroed in on Siva. “Siva hailed from in Krishnagiri. Unlike other burglars who break open doors and windows to gain entry, Siva enters houses without the knowledge of the inmates. Though he was successful this time, he was noticed by one of the inmates,” the officer said.

Suspecting Siva’s role, the special team went to check his temporary house in Pooluvapatti and caught him red-handed trying to hide the stolen property. Siva had come out of the Salem Central Prison only a month ago.
