Cousin, lover held for murdering younger homemaker

TIRUPUR: Cracking the murder of the 24-year-old homemaker at in last week, police have arrested the woman’s and her lover. The accused, who was having an illicit relationship with the deceased woman’s husband, was worried that the victim possessed a memory card containing video footage that could expose her illicit relationships, police sources said.
The victim, , had two young children. “She had married A Boopalan, a resident of Kamatchi Amman Nagar in Iduvampalayam six years ago. was working as a tailoring contractor in a knitwear company and was staying in his own house at Kamatchi Amman Nagar along with his family. Nathiya’s cousin was also staying in the same locality. Rekha’s husband Gajendran had deserted her two years ago and had initiated divorce proceedings alleging infidelity. Meanwhile, Rekha developed a relationship with Boopalan, who promised to marry her once the divorce case was over,” a police officer said.

But, Rekha, who had an eye on Boopalan’s wealth, did not want Nathiya to be an obstruction. “She sought the help of K Nagaraj, with whom she had an illicit relationship, to eliminate Nathiya. On March 14, she visited Nathiya’s home and managed to steal her mobile phone containing the video footage. Rekha also took Nathiya’s eldest child to her house after getting her permission. Within minutes, Nagaraj, who was hiding in the same locality, entered Nathiya’s house and hacked her on her neck in front of her one-and-half-year-old son. Nathiya was discovered dead in a pool of blood,” the officer added.

Nagaraj, who had grown a beard in order to hide his identity, escaped to Bengaluru immediately after the deed. However, police nabbed both Nagaraj and Rekha. They have been remanded in judicial custody.
