Police arrest3 chain snatchers, get well gold

COIMBATORE: The city police arrested three chain snatchers in the last two days and recovered 10 sovereigns of gold from them.
Police arrested A Nizaruddin of Athupalam in Coimbatore and E of in Madurai on Thursday for their involvement in two chain snatching cases reported from and a few days ago. They had snatched gold chains weighing a total of 10 sovereigns from two women. Police nabbed them after going through CCTV footage collected from the area.

“Nizaruddin is facing seven snatching cases in Sulur, Peelamedu and Ramanathapuram police station limits and a case for selling ganja. Sathish is facing a murder case, attempt to murder and snatching cases in Thirumangalam police station limit. He was staying in a rented room along with his friends at Eachanari. Nizaruddin and Sathish became friends when they were lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison. Sathish used a friend’s motorcycle for chain snatching,” a police officer said, adding that police have also seized the motorcycle.

Saravanampatti police arrested 22-year-old C Prem of Rajagopalpatti in Theni district for snatching a chain from a woman at . “Local residents had caught him red-handed. However, the chain was imitation jewellery. Prem had completed a diploma course and was working in a motor pump manufacturing unit at Saravanampatti, drawing a salary of Rs 10,000,” the officer said. Police seized a motorcycle from him and remanded him in judicial custody on Wednesday.
