Suicide pact: ‘Teenaged woman panicked, left lover on tracks however bought hit‘

THANE: The 15-year-old girl reportedly involved in a with her 20-year-old lover had chickened out after noticing the speeding train coming in their direction. But she could not jump out of its way in time and got dragged a few feet away, the loco pilot of the Roha Diva train told the Thane railway police.
On March 16, the bodies of a 20-year-old dance teacher and a 15-year-old girl were found, a few metres from each other, on the tracks between Diva and Niljhe stations. Initial reports said the two had tied their hands to each other‘s with a piece of cloth before being struck by a train.

Police suspect they taken the extreme step as their families were opposed to their relationship.

In his statement to the railway police, the loco pilot said he saw a couple standing in the path of his train after it crossed Niljhe station. He claimed he saw the girl try to jump out of the way, deserting the man, but probably got hit by one of the engine buffers. He said she may have got dragged for a few metres away from the spot whereas the man was run over. She later succumbed to her injuries.

“The statement of the loco pilot was vital and we recorded it late on Wednesday. He has told us the duo was standing together on the tracks and the girl tried to escape after seeing the train. However, he might have thought the girl had escaped which is why he did not alert the officials about her,” said Uttam Sonawane, senior police inspector.
