Markets snap 9-day profitable streak, Sensex closes under 34,400

NEW DELHI: Equity benchmarks and faced losses in the last one hour of trading as both finished about 0.20 per cent below previous closing.

The 30-share BSE index closed at 34,331.68, down 63.38 points while the broader 50-share NSE Nifty lost 22.50 points to finish trading at 10,526.20. The Street thus, closed in the red for the first time in ten days.

The slip was on back of the banking sector as cash crunch in ATMs in some parts of the country and related concerns hit sentiments. The Nifty FMCG sub-index peaked almost 2 per cent.

ITC, Wipro and gained the most while and Mahindra & Mahindra lost the most.
