UP: Lady gang-raped by father, his pals in Sitapur

LUCKNOW: A man has been booked for gang-raping his 35-year-old daughter along with two friends. The incident took place on the intervening night of April 15 and 16 in UP‘s Sitapur district, about 70km away from Lucknow when the father and daughter duo were out to attend a fair that is organised in Kamlapur locality of Sitapur annually.

Later that night the woman‘s father who remains on the run called up his friend Maan Singh to the fair. A listed history sheeter who has several criminals cases registered against him, Maan Singh had committed some offences along with the woman’s father in the past.

The two convinced the woman to ride with them on the motorcycle and took her to the house of their friend Meraj. Station house officer of Kamlapur police station Sanjeet Sonkar said that Meraj is in early 40s and his family was away that day. “He is a medical practitioner, but could not produce a degree,” said Sonkar clarifying that Meraj worked as a quack in Kamlapur town.

The woman remained confined in the room for 18 hours and the three men gang-raped her. She managed to escape on April 16 and told her mother about the ordeal. The same day, an FIR was registered against the woman’s father, Maan Singh, and Meraj. While Meraj was arrested on Tuesday, the other two managed to escape.

Superintendent of Sitapur police Sureshrao A Kulkarni said that father of the woman had been banished by the villagers last year in November. “A panchayat was called and villagers told the local police that man and daughter had incestuous relationship. The father was arrested. He got bail in February though,” said Kulkarni.

The woman started staying separately along with her 14-year-old son thereafter. But she decided to visit the fair with her father on the fateful day. Police said that the woman was married off 16 years back but came back to her maternal house after a tiff with husband within two years.
