Maharashtra: Truck driver crushed to dying for eve-teasing in Palghar

MUMBAI: A was beaten to death by three men for allegedly eve-teasing and overtaking one of their wives riding a two-wheeler on the state highway in ‘s on Monday.

Accused Kiran Bhoir, Jayesh Patil and Devendra Patil, all residents of Sapne village in Wada, have been arrested.

At around 8pm, the victim was riding on the road when the driver of the truck Harendra Singh (48) who was headed from Bhiwandi to Silvassa allegedly passed lewd remarks at her while he was driving the vehicle.

The victim in her complaint to the Wada police stated that Singh passed lewd comments and prevented her from overtaking. She alleged that Singh was dangerously driving the truck towards her in an attempt to scare her.

Unable to handle Singh, she telephoned her husband Kiran who along with Jayesh and Devendra arrived at the spot on a two-wheeler.

The truck driver, who hailed from Nagpur, had moved ahead. The three men chased the truck for about a km and pulled him out of the driver’s cabin. They allegedly assaulted him with bricks lying around. They even punched and kicked him.

Singh died on the spot. The men fled the spot. Singh was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead before arrival. The police reached the spot after they received calls from the public. A major traffic jam was created on the road as the men lynched the driver.

The accused have been booked under IPC sections 302 (murder), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 (common intention). They have been remanded to police custody till April 21.
