Mumbra bypass highway to be open to visitors for four days

Thane: The road will remain open for vehicular traffic for the next three to four days as the Thane traffic department has postponed the repair work on the road citing insufficient time to create awareness and plan alternate routes.
The department had earlier announced that the Mumbra bypass road will be shut from April 16 as the (PWD) was going to conduct the repair work of the dilapidated road over bridge (ROB) at the bypass. However, since the awareness about the repair and information on the alternative routes were not adequately reached out to the citizens, the maintenance work has been postponed and the road can be used the next three to four days.

“As we were busy finalising the alternative roads we could not inform about the same to the citizens in time, so we will be starting the work only once people know about it. We are yet to decide on the number of wardens and the areas in which they will be placed during the two-month span when the work will take place. Also, we are yet to get the sign boards, which will be placed to facilitate the drivers or riders about the new routes,” said , deputy commissioner of police, traffic.

Officials claimed that they will even be doing some repair and maintenance work on the service roads, which will be used during diversions so that any uneven roads or potholes do not lead to any mishaps or traffic congestion.

“We are going to cut out some part of the divider on the Teen Hath Naka road so that we are able to do diversion there. Also, we will be taking down the foot over bridge (FOB) near the gurudwara so that there is enough space and more vehicles could ply on the road,” added Kale.

Once the repair work on the Mumbra bypass starts, over 40,000 heavy vehicles will be seen on the interior parts of Navi Mumbai and Thane city. The PWD is going to put bearings and do distressing work on the ROB as only the upper part of the bridge is affected and the pillars are intact. This will help in decreasing the vibrations which one feels while travelling on the bridge. Also, as the bypass has sharp turns due to which there have been many accidents wherein the vehicles have toppled down from the mountain, they will be placing stone barricades and even the potholes on the bypass will be filled.
