Nation-made carbine recovered from Muzaffarpur SSP chamber throughout vigilance raid

PATNA: The (SVU) sleuths on Tuesday recovered a country-made carbine from the official chamber of Muzaffarpur SSP which is located inside the premises of his official residence in Muzaffarpur during the raid in connection with disproportionate asset amassed by him.
SVU sources said that six locker keys were also recovered from the residence of Kumar’s in-laws’ residence at Aryapuri Colony in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

“The carbine, which was kept on the floor inside the chamber, should not had been there at any cost,” sources said adding the matter was being investigated that on who’s behest the illegal firearm was kept there.

“Raids were on going at the official residence in Muzaffarpur, Aryapuri and at Kumar’s parental residence at Varun Vihar in Saharanpur, also in Uttar Pradesh,” sources said.

Meanwhile, the state government, taking prompt action, suspended SSP Kumar on Tuesday.

Home department principal secretary , while talking to TOI over phone, said that the officer was placed under suspension following the raids against him.

“He would report to the office of director general of home guards in Patna during the tenure of his suspension,” Subhani said.

Instead of Kumar, Muzaffarpur City SP has been made SSP (in-charge) of the district. Verma is a 2013 batch IPS officer.

SVU conducted raids at four places including SSP’s office in Muzaffaarpur for amassing asset disproportionate to 300% than known source of his income since 2005.

“The 2007 batch Bihar cadre IPS officer, his wife Nidhi Karnwal, father-in-law Ved Prakash Karnwal, brother-in-law Nikhil Karnwal and Nikhil’s wife Shelly Karnwal are named accused in the FIR lodged in the disproportionate asset case on April 15.

“Kumar’s father Prakash Chandra is also among the named accused,” sources said.

They said that the in-laws’ own two plots at Sikarhara in Surendra Nagar of Muzaffarnagar district.

Kumar, his wife and in-laws’ together hold 112 fixed deposits (FD) worth Rs 1.47 crore either individually or jointly. This includes 21 FDs worth Rs 21 lakh jointly owned by Kumar and his wife.

The SVU sleuths at the time of lodging FIR had unearthed movable assets worth Rs 1.06 crore against likely saving of Rs 33.3 lakh of Kumar and his wife.
